Such a Sweet Day

Sky and I had a much needed day off yesterday, just the two of us. We took the boat out to splash and play and snorkel for a bit. It was a beautiful day out and we had such a sweet time. I'm going to miss my big lovey goofball so much.

Management

Since my last day of work was Sunday and because I'm the laziest person alive these days, I've been catching up on my movie watching. One of the movies I rented this week was "Management" with Jennifer Aniston and Steve Zahn. I thought this movie was cute! It was a bit slow and quirky in the beginning but it trucked along. Plus it had the feel of a small budget, indie film which I liked! I sort of wished that Steve Zahn wasn't so weird or awkward but maybe it helped make the film what it was. And although it's described as a comedy, I found it to be more of a love story with a few funny moments. Far from a comedy in my opinion. But I liked it!

Face Lift

When I started this blog, it was to share our lives and going-ons here in the Virgin Islands, hence the title. Well a little thing called Life happened along and changed our course a bit. So we are (happily!) making necessary adjustments. One of those adjustments is moving back stateside. Our move means we will no longer be in "paradise". So I'm changing the look, and quite possible the name, of this blog. Just a heads-up that things will look much different here soon! But I'm looking forward to it because designing a blog feels so close to decorating a room, which I LOVE!!

Happy Friday all!!!!

Food Glorious Food

I plan on gaining at least 10 lbs on my return home. For the first month I'm back I plan on eating my way through Atlanta. I dream about all of the food and restaurants I haven't tasted or been to in 10 months. In no particular order, I can't wait to eat:

- Anything from Chick Fil-A
- Salad and bread sticks from Olive Garden
- Pasta from Figo
- Pizza from Papa John's
- Anything from Taco Bell
- A hot dog and fries from Vortex
- Nachos from Willy's
- Subs from Publix
- Cheese dip and chimichangas from Los Bravos AND La Parilla
- Breakfast from Flying Biscuit, IHOP, Java Jive and Thumbs Up

I would go on but thinking about all of this food is torturing me!! Only one week to go...

Open Book

I'm an open book. I don't think anyone would disagree with that statement. I share, and sometimes over-share, everything about my life. My thoughts, my plans, my decisions or anything that happens to be going on in my life at the moment is pretty much fair game for me to discuss with any and everyone. I'm sure I was born this way. I've always been a talker. And a blurter-out of things. I'd like to think that this can be charming, but it's probably just annoying.

One thing that I should have been more cautious about sharing is my pregnancy. The rule, which is as old as the day is long, is that you should keep mum about expecting until you're in your 2nd trimester. But between Sky and I and our freakishly similar ability to spill a secret in record time, everyone knows about the baby. Facebook helped a little too. And still, I have at least a week and a half until my second trimester. Hindsight is 20/20 but I'm happy we decided to share, even if we aren't out of the woods quite yet.

I know for a fact that I've been over-sharing with the details of being pregnant to my friends. The girls at work regularly hear the words placenta, vagina, breast-feeding, bloated, morning sickness, uterus, and epidural (to name a few) from my mouth too many times a day to count. I'm just so amazed, if not a little grossed out, about everything that happens to your body during pregnancy!! It really is incredible!

We plan on posting and sharing sonogram pictures, the sex of the baby, and even pictures of the nursery after it's decorated! In saying that, we've decided that there is one thing we will keep a secret. Sky and I have decided that the baby's name will be for just the two of us to know until the baby is born.

This is a secret I'm excited to keep!! Happy Monday all!!

Delight of the Day

Sometimes we like to share happy tidbits!! And to even out the Universe I should have (at least!) one good thought for every bad, right? For my first Delight of the Day entry:

Sky is one of the best cooks I've ever met, and hands down one of the best I've ever lived with!! I love when he cooks dinner for us, which is pretty often. He can make even the simplest foods so yummy. He's cooking tonight and I'm so thankful I'm not the one standing in the hot kitchen whipping something up! So my delight of the day is my sweet fiancĂ© cooking dinner for me:)

Gripe of the Day

Sometimes I just need to bitch about something!! Don't we all?! My first entry for Gripe of the Day:

I will NEVER live in another house/apartment/townhouse/condo without a dishwasher. I've been washing dishes by hand for 10 months and it sucks. Major ass.

The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo

I HATED this movie. It was too violent, too intense and too graphic for me. I didn't know anything about the book or film going in, so maybe that was my issue. I thought the storyline was intriguing and unique, and maybe reading it would have gone over better for me. But as a movie I cringed for half of it and closed my eyes for the other half. Then again I'm a wimp when it comes to watching violence on the big screen. Now I'm wishing that I had picked up the book first, but the movie has ruined the entire trilogy for me. Before the movie started there was a trailer for the upcoming second film. I think it's safe to say I will NOT be seeing that one.

Easier Said Than Done

Well Sunday happens to be my last day of work. Remember that awesome plan of mine to spend the last week beaching and snorkeling and hiking and boat tripping? Yeah, that's not going to happen. We got some pretty icky weather that tore up the island on Monday night. And it's still hitting the island pretty hard. We have flash flood warnings just about every night. There's flooding, roads have been ruined, we've had rock slides, and beaches are washed away. The island is a wreck right now! Unfortunately it looks like my last few days here will be spent inside:( Oh well! The joys of living in the Caribbean during hurricane season I guess! Below are a couple of videos that Sky shot around the island. Not too pretty...

I Miss You Already

It's about 2 weeks until I return to Atlanta! I realized today that I've been so busy planning my future back home, that I haven't been giving St John a proper goodbye. There are so many things I will miss about the VI! For example:

- taking a dinghy to St Thomas for a grocery trip
- wearing flip flops, dresses, and shorts all year long
- fish & chips at Beach Bar, sushi at Happy Fish, the banana xango at B Deck, and Happy Hour everywhere!
- being 5 minutes away from a breathtaking beach
- knowing that I can safely hitch hike without the fear of being abducted, killed, or worse (morbid but true!)
- midnight drum parties in ancient ruins
- And last but not least: all of the amazing people who have turned into amazing friends

I have so much to do between now and heading home! The time is flying and I know these 2 weeks will be a blur. I'm really hoping to squeeze in plenty of snorkel, beach, hiking and friend time before that happens!! St John I'm not gone yet but I sure am missing you already...

Stormy

It's storming outside right now. Like full out thunder, lightning, and raining buckets. I am beyond thrilled that this weather coincided with my day off. Now I have a valid reason not to leave the house! My list of things to do today include:

1. Eat something at least marginally nutritious (hot dogs for breakfast: check!)

2. Read more than 5 pages of my new book, It Sucked and Then I Cried, at one time (it's about motherhood; it's scary)

3. Watch The View

4. Research more baby names (we've vetoed Lucas, Lennox, Ian, Shawn, Hawke and other more awful, unmentionable names)

5. Take at least 2 naps

This will definitely not be the most ambitious or productive day, but a great one nevertheless. Happy October!!
