#83 See a movie that makes me cry

Obviously this isn't something that I could really plan. So I figured when it would happen, it would happen. And it happened last night. As I said before, I'm in the middle of being obsessed with movies. I watch one every single day. Some days I watch two! Last night was one of those nights. I got home around 5:30p and immediately changed into my pjs, curled up with Migi and started a movie night. This is one of the movies I watched:

I wish I had been a bit more prepared for this. I hadn't seen the previews, nor did I read a synopsis of the movie. The only thing I can recall hearing about it was that it had an amazing cast and was produced by Tyler Perry. I thought it was going to be a feel-good, female empowering sort of movie. 

It wasn't. This movie made me sad to be black, sad to be a woman and made me want to hate black men. And let me make clear that NONE of these are my real feelings, nor have I ever felt that way. As a matter of fact, I usually feel the exact opposite! I was shocked at how depressing and heart-wrenching this movie was! And the crying I did was not "I'm so touched by this" crying. This crying was more "This is extremely sad and painful and uncomfortable to watch and I identify with too many of these scenarios and they remind me of my own depressing situation/experience/childhood" sort of crying.

So I started sobbing about 45 minutes into it and didn't stop until the credits rolled. And then I was angry. Because I was not ready, nor did I want, to be emotionally attacked and drained by a movie. But I had been. Oh well . Lesson learned.

All I Do...

... is watch movies these days!! Movies are my friends!! What else is there to do when you're alone and it's so cold out?! I literally go to work, come home, eat dinner, watch a movie and go to bed. Every. Single. Night. I feel 86 instead of 26. Oh well. A few I've seen lately:

Rent this if you like action. It was awesome!

 Old school, interesting and their accents are cute. And based on a true story!

 Sooooo scary. Right up until the very end. Loved it!

 It would have been hotter if Mickey Rourke wasn't so weird looking in it. It was just okay.

 Cute, but so real to the point where some scenes were uncomfortable to watch. I loved it!!! I would see it again.

 Weird and just okay. But I am a Kevin Costner fan.

 Just okay. I wouldn't waste my time if I were you, though!

Sex and Lucia

Loved. This. Film!!!!! I'm usually a fan of foreign films, and this one, directed by Julio Medem, did not disappoint! It makes me want to Netflix everything else he's done! It was sexy and interesting, the acting was amazing, the plot was dramatic and complex, and the movie was visually beautiful. Oh and there was lots of nudity, which I was not complaining about!! Rent it!!

Scared Silly

I love horror movies. Ordinarily I can only watch them with other people, but the last few days I've been on a solo scary movie bender. Some have been cheesy, some have awful acting, but I've been scared at some point in every one of them. I imagine that this mini-obsession will end just in time for the move to my new place. As usual, I have amazing timing. Here are a few I've seen over the past three days:

Knight and Day

I LOVED it!!!! For the record I think Tom Cruise is a nut job in real life. But that doesn't stop me from watching and loving every movie he makes!!!! For some reason Cameron Diaz played the "dumb blonde" stereotype to perfection, which is so unlike her and really annoyed me! But there was romance, explosions, crazy car chases, funny one-liners, and tropical scenery involved. What's not to love? I'd watch it again!

Delight of the Day

How did I forget the absolutely loveliness and joy of musicals?!?! It's like I've discovered them all over again!! I'm currently watching Mamma Mia while continuing to be One with the couch. It makes me smile, even if only for 90 minutes:)

Management

Since my last day of work was Sunday and because I'm the laziest person alive these days, I've been catching up on my movie watching. One of the movies I rented this week was "Management" with Jennifer Aniston and Steve Zahn. I thought this movie was cute! It was a bit slow and quirky in the beginning but it trucked along. Plus it had the feel of a small budget, indie film which I liked! I sort of wished that Steve Zahn wasn't so weird or awkward but maybe it helped make the film what it was. And although it's described as a comedy, I found it to be more of a love story with a few funny moments. Far from a comedy in my opinion. But I liked it!

The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo

I HATED this movie. It was too violent, too intense and too graphic for me. I didn't know anything about the book or film going in, so maybe that was my issue. I thought the storyline was intriguing and unique, and maybe reading it would have gone over better for me. But as a movie I cringed for half of it and closed my eyes for the other half. Then again I'm a wimp when it comes to watching violence on the big screen. Now I'm wishing that I had picked up the book first, but the movie has ruined the entire trilogy for me. Before the movie started there was a trailer for the upcoming second film. I think it's safe to say I will NOT be seeing that one.
